How to Plan Your Season

Pick one or two “A races” — the events you want to perform your best at. Build your training cycle around these peaks.

Use smaller events as “B races” — training runs with a bib number. Race at 85% effort, practice nutrition strategy, test gear.

Space your A races at least 6 weeks apart — your body needs time to recover from peak performance and build again. The athletes who burn out are the ones who try to peak every weekend.

Factor in travel and logistics. The world championship events (Australia, Spain, Ireland) require significant travel planning. Book flights and accommodation early — OCR championship host cities see price spikes as events approach.

Build in recovery weeks. Every 3-4 weeks of training should include a lighter week. After any A race, plan for 7-10 days of easy activity before resuming structured training.
